Writing Prompts – Whether or Not to Use Them
The theme for NaBloPoMo this month is “Whether,” and is focused on transitions and choices. Participation in NaBloPoMo does not require writing to the theme, but the host is proving 5 writing prompts a week on the theme for those who want to use them. I have not been using the prompts. My life is prompt enough on the theme of transitions these days.
But, I have been reading the prompts and wondering what it would be like to blog using the prompts. So, here is a list of the prompts so far and what I would have written had I followed them.
- How do you feel about uncertainty? Is it exciting or scary?
A little uncertainty is exciting. Too much is scary. The only thing certain in life is that things will change.
- Would you rather have invisibility or the ability to fly?
If I could have the ability to fly and lose my vertigo, I would love to see the world from above. I’ve had too much experience of feeling invisible to ever want to actually be invisible.
- Would you rather travel to space or go deep into the ocean?
Deep into the ocean. I love living things. I would love to go on expeditions looking for the strange beasts that live in the harsh oceanic environments.
- Would you rather make your own choices or have someone make them for you?
For all that I suffer from analysis paralysis, I would rather make all of my own choices rather than have someone else make all of my choices. But, I would prefer it even more if I had fewer choices.
The fact that I want to make my own choices is why I am not following the prompts for this challenge. But, I like the nudge to get out of my mental ruts.
Maybe it is time for me to consider writing to prompts more often.
